The release represents a significant step forward in functionality for the Cisco UC system, with support for virtualisation being an important enhancement and by teaming Cisco Unified Communication technologies with the Cisco Unified Computing System, voice systems can now be fully virtualised, providing increased resilience and scalability with easier management.
Many other new functionalities are introduced in the version 8.0 release, including support for the internet standard wideband codec, iSAC, migration of Presence to the XMPP protocol, high availability in the Unified Contact Centre Express product, VPN client built into IP Handsets amongst other new features.
As part of the Cisco UC Beta Community SICL was involved with version 8.0 development and deployed the new version internally shortly after release and testing.
David Jennings, SICL Technical Director, commented “We’ve had great interest in UC8 and now have our first upgrades scheduled with many more customers interested in the new features”.
SICL would be pleased to demonstrate and advise on new features - please contact your Account Manager or Service Manager for details of workshops and personal demonstrations.
